Solar Panel Mounting
It is crucial to choose the right solar panel mount for you as this will allow you to maximise the efficiency of your system. A solar panel mount directly impacts how well panels capture sunlight and endure environmental conditions.
Whether you are new to solar or looking to expand your existing solar panel system this clear and concise guide will be useful for your understanding on solar panel mounting.
In this guide were going to cover
Roof Mounting
This is the most common method of mounting solar panels and is used on traditional slanted roofs as these roofs are at a good angle for solar efficiency.
Solar panels are mounted onto a roof by an anchor, mounting rails and clamps. The anchor is attached to the roof, the mounting panels are then attached to the anchor and the solar panels are placed on top and fixed to them using clamps.
A negative of having solar panels mounted on your roof is that some roofs such as wooden roofs aren’t suitable as there is an increased risk of an electrical fire.
Ground Mounting
Ground mounting is another popular way of installing solar and its not just for big commercial solar fields it can be used for your house too.
Solar panels are simply fixed to a frame typically an A-frame, this frame is kept in place typically using concrete piles or if preferred ground screws.
Ground Mounted solar panels are typically more efficient because they are easier to angle however this comes with a trade off a higher start up cost due to more materials being required and the installation taking longer.
The reason for the higher cost is a trench usually has to be dug to run cable as a ground system is typically further away from the homes electrics than a roof system.
Pole Mounting
Pole mounting is another form of ground mounting but instead of the panels being on an A-frame they are attached to a pole.
This style of mounting allows a solar tracking system to be added this adjusts the angle of the panel depending on the position of the sun.
A solar tracking system can increase the efficiency of a panel by 20% – 35% according to the eco experts however solar tracking systems can come with a big price tag.
